Registered Dispensing Optician
The Medical Board's Licensing Program protects the consumer through the proper registration of Registered Dispensing Opticians (RDO). The RDO certificate authorizes the applicant, its agents and employees acting therefore to engage in the business defined in Section 2550 of the Business and Professions Code, provided that the fitting and adjusting of spectacle lenses is performed in compliance with Article 1.5 (commencing with Section 2559.1) and the fitting and adjusting of contact lenses is performed in compliance with Article 2 (commencing with Section 2560).
Prior to filling out the application, please review California Business & Professions Code sections 2550-2559 as they pertain to an RDO.
Fees: The RDO registration fee is $75 and is nonrefundable. Personal check, cashier's check, or money orders are accepted for payment. Do not send cash. Please make checks payable to: Medical Board of California.
Renewals: RDO renewals are not currently available online. Please contact the Board's cashiering office at (916) 263-2637 to obtain a renewal notice. If your registration has been expired for more than 5 years, you are not eligible for renewal - you will need to apply for a new registration.
